Malaga: More than a seaside resort - Feria season

11 Aug 2016

Feria de Malaga

Malaga is mostly known for its beautiful port and its beach. All year long, especially during summer, the city is very popular. But it’s more than just a beach and a seaside, Malaga offers a lot of things to see, and welcomes the feria of August which will be a huge event.

  • If you want to enjoy days at the beach AND to see some typical celebrations, you need to go to Malaga right now! Because the Feria of Malaga is beginning this Saturday 13th and lasts until the 20th, so... get on a plane! what are you waiting for? Everyday you will be able to enjoy the traditional Spanish feria in the city streets, and mainly in the historical centre and the Plaza de Toros (bull arena). This event is mainly about religious and traditional processions in the streets with dancers, musicians, costumes, expositions also and of course spreads of joy!

Have a look at the official program!

Aside from this particular event, Malaga is a great city. Maybe some people are disappointed because it’s really different from the Andalusian architectural style (which you can see in Seville or in Granada for example). But open your eyes and look a little closer!

  • Wow, wait a minute? What’s that huge castle on the city hill? Well, this, my friend is the Castle of Gibralfaro and it’s precious! You can walk your way up there (it takes time and sweat, I won’t lie to you), or go there by touristic bus or car, but the objective is: getting up there! From this point you’ll have a 360° panorama of the city and of the bay.

  • You can wander around the castle remains and even walk down to see the Alcazaba. What is that? Well no, it’s not a Harry Potter spell but it’s definitely magic! The Alcazaba is a fort from the 11th century which shares the same style line of the Andalusian fort and palace (Alcazar in Seville, Alhambra in Granada).

  • After your visits you’ll be tired (again, totally honest with you), and you’ll need some award prize for all the walking you did. So, what’s better than churros and chocolate for this? Well…nothing. Good for you, we know the best churros place in Malaga with amazing waiters who attend you in less than 2 minutes (we timed)… This place is called Casa Aranda and is located in Calle Herrería del Rey, 3. It's so popular that we advice you to be there before it reopens on the afternoon (5pm) to be the first ones there!
  • Last but not least, why not book a bike tour in Malaga! It's a great and fun way to discover the city in a limited time!
