Marlies in Seville, my summer internship spain at ATD Spain

21 Jul 2017

Buenos Dias ! I am Marlies from Belgium and currently, I am doing a summer internship in Spain. A few months ago, I decided to give it a shot and sign up for a job in Seville, Spain. BEST DECISION EVER! Every morning, I get up and get ready to go to the shop of Andalucía Tours and Discovery, for taking people with me on a bike trip through the city. We visit many different places, and because we are doing the tour by bike, the clients get the chance to form an overall image of the city and I can enjoy the most beautiful places in Seville every single day: Oh how I love my internships in spain, and my job!

Luckily for me, the Spanish way of living really fits my dreams: everything is mañana, mañana and it is really a good idea to take some rest during siesta, especially when temperature rises above 45 degrees. When it is not really really hot, I enjoy a long lunch with ‘gazpacho’ or ‘patatas bravas’ during the afternoon.

After siesta, Spanish people get back to work, and so do I. From 5pm to 8pm I work inside the shop of ATD Spain, to maintain social media up to date or to write articles for the blog, to make some videos or to post the pictures of the Daily Bike Tour on the website.
After work, I get home to take a refreshing shower, and I (try to) cook. Occasionally we go out for tapas with colleagues or other friends, around 11 in the evening, which is pretty late compared to Belgium, but it only took me a few days to adapt to the Spanish format, because I do like it a lot.

Of course, we are not always working. During summer, the city gets a bit quiet because of the heat, so when I have a day of, I go outside the city to go to the seaside or to visit Córdoba or Granada. Then I can act like a tourist myself for once: lovely! When I stay in the city on a day off, you can find me around Plaza de España, my all-time favorite place in the world! Also the Maria Luisa Park is a nice place to spend some time under the coconut trees with friends: so relaxing on hot summer days.

By the way, if you would be interested to experience the Spanish way of living yourself, ATD Spain is still looking for guides, starting from September. Give it a try!
