Thanksgiving in Seville, Spain. Do the Spaniards celebrate it as the Americans? Well, the modern people do actually. But as for the classic people, the older people do not actually. Thanksgiving is tradition in America, this tradition actually flew over to Spain and more European countries but moreover through movies and the internet.
However to get a complete Thanksgiving meal like in America is rare. Because they don’t have the same kind of herbs they use in America. But you might find these in A taste of America shops. Those are local supermarkets with American products only. But what do the Spaniards actually eat on Thanksgiving then?
Well, American themed restaurants use to have Thanksgiving meals. In Seville we do have a Hard Rock café. On Thanksgiving you can definitely enjoy a good turkey there. But what if you want to stay traditional here in Seville? You have two options as well. First of all, you could just enjoy a Thanksgiving Paella or go to a bar and drink some beer with good tapas and vary between their timeless turkey traditions for savoury Spanish classics.
As for your second option, try it out sometimes! Thanksgiving is a nice holiday and of course good food is always welcome. In Spain, just like in many other countries, Thanksgiving is not an official holiday. People celebrate it but don't know the history about it, they just want to have a good time. On the other side, Spain has a lot of amazing holidays itself that are really worth trying out. So why don’t try their holidays and just blend in with their culture and make the best of that. That’s how you learn a different culture. Personally I think this is way better because one day you will be going back to where you came from and there you can enjoy all your favourite holidays as you were before. But since you’re in a different country, just live like the locals. Eat like them, talk like them and adapt yourself to them to get the most out of your time abroad!
