Seville is known for its sunny climate and very cold days are rare. But of course, we do have some rain here every now and then, especially between fall and spring. In the summer, the chance for rain is very low. But what do you do on a rainy day here in Seville? You can bring your rain clothes and still visit the highlights of the city with one of our guides, but you can also decide to enjoy yourself indoors. The possibilities are endless! In this blog, we show you our favorites!
1. Visit a museum
A rainy day is a perfect time to visit a museum. Seville has many interesting museums, such as the Naval Museum in the Torre Del Oro (the Golden Tower), where you can learn more at the two floors of exhibits and have a spectacular view from the panoramic terrace. Another museum you can visit is the Archeological museum which was built for the Ibero-American exposition of 1929 in the María Luisa Park. For European citizens, this museum is free to visit! Other museums you could visit are the contemporary art museum, the Museo de Bellas Artes or the Archivo de Indias where you can find out all the details of Columbus’ travels.
2. Go to the movies
Going to the cinema is the perfect way to relax when it is raining. Across Plaza de Armas there is a cinema that shows some movies in English that have Spanish subtitles. This way, you can enjoy the movie and at the same time learn some Spanish words by looking at the subtitles. This Cinema is called Odeón and the tickets for the movies are very affordable compared to other cinemas in Europe. Sit back and relax while watching one of the new movies they’re showing!
3. Go on a tapas tour
Of course, you prefer to sit outside when going out for some tapas, but you can also embrace the fact that it is raining and organize your own tapas tour and visit different bars for some food. This way, you get to know all types of Spanish food and can avoid most of the rain. Alameda de Hercules would be a great place for this, this huge square has many restaurants and bars where you can taste typical Spanish dishes!
4. Enjoy a Spa-day
One of the only things that don’t need a rain-check is indulging in a spa day. Treat yourself with a massage, a facial scrub, daydreaming in the steam room and hot and cold tubs. Plan this day to completely relax and you will come back feeling much calmer. A place we recommend is AIRE Ancient Baths in Seville. Just a few steps away from the cathedral, in an alley named Aire you will find this magnificent spa which will take you to a new level of Zen.
5. A visit to Acuario de Sevilla
Last week, we posted a blog about the beautiful and educational Acuario de Sevilla. This aquarium is a perfect place to visit on a rainy day. When you’re inside, you feel like you pass different continents and meet their inhabitants. Immerse yourself in the world underwater and maybe when you get outside, the rain is over!
6. See a Flamenco show
You can’t leave Seville without having visited an authentic Flamenco show! The roots of Flamenco are found in Triana, a district in Seville where the monument of the flamenco-dancer holding a guitar in her hands still reminds us of the beautiful history. Flamenco is a huge part of the culture of Seville and to visit the best flamenco, we recommend Tableau el Arenal. Our staff in the shop is more than willing to help check the availability and help you book your tickets, so don’t hesitate to pass by!
