October is one of the best months to experience Seville. The intense summer heat has finally eased, the terraces are buzzing again, and the city feels lively without feeling overwhelming.
But there’s another reason to visit Seville in October: there’s plenty happening around the city. From flamenco and Andalusian horses to local markets and beautiful autumn evenings, here are a few things you don’t want to miss this month.
Flamenco, flamenco and more flamenco
If you’re in Seville at the beginning of October, you can still catch the final days of the Bienal de Flamenco. Until October 3rd, the city is filled with performances celebrating one of Andalusia’s most iconic art forms.
And even after the Bienal is over, October is a great time to experience flamenco. Find a traditional tablao, order a drink and enjoy an evening of music, singing and dancing. There’s no better way to experience the atmosphere of Seville.
Discover Andalusian horse culture
From October 1st to 4th, Parque del Alamillo hosts the Gran Semana del Caballo Angloárabe, celebrating one of Andalusia’s great traditions. Expect horse competitions, demonstrations and plenty of Andalusian atmosphere. It’s a great option if you want to experience something a little different from Seville’s famous landmarks, and admission is free.
Browse through old books
From September 26th to October 19th, Plaza de San Francisco hosts the Feria del Libro Antiguo y de Ocasión, a charming market filled with old, second-hand and collectible books.
Even if you don’t speak Spanish, it’s worth taking a look. Browse the stalls, admire the beautiful old books and enjoy the atmosphere of one of Seville’s central squares.
Discover local makers
Until October 13th, Hecho en Sevilla brings together local craftspeople and creative makers.
It’s a great opportunity to discover something different and take home a unique souvenir made in Seville. Skip the typical tourist shops for a while and see what local artists and makers have to offer.
And then… simply enjoy Seville
Perhaps the best thing about October is that you can simply enjoy being outside again.
Take a slow walk through Santa Cruz, have a drink on a terrace in Triana, watch the sunset over the Guadalquivir and finish the evening with tapas. No rush, no strict plans: just enjoy the city. October shows you a different side of Seville: lively, relaxed and full of little things to discover.
And if you want to see as much of the city as possible, there’s always one more option: explore it by bike 😉
