Seville is perhaps at its most beautiful in spring. The temperatures are generally very pleasant and mild, the orange trees are in full bloom and the whole city smells of azahar, orange blossom. The squares become livelier, with crowded terraces and street musicians. Unfortunately, the weather in spring can be unpredictable, but fortunately Seville still has plenty to offer. Whether it’s a lovely sunny weekend or a rainy day, there’s always something to do in Seville, and in this blog, I’ll tell you what to do on different weekends.
A city full of color and fragrance
What makes Seville so magical in spring? At the beginning of spring, you see different kinds of flowers everywhere, the terraces fill up again, the squares become busier, and everyone is outside. In addition, from March and April onwards, you can find white flowers in the orange trees, which give off a characteristic sweet fragrance.
It is also the perfect temperature for hours of walking through the city because the narrow streets, colorful trees and various historic squares ensure that you discover something new everywhere you go.
A sunny spring weekend
There are many different things to do during a sunny spring weekend. Let me start with the Real Alcázar, the royal palace where Moorish and Spanish architecture come together, and where you can also enjoy the beautiful garden full of orange trees and other beautiful flowers. If the Real Alcázar is fully booked, there are several other palaces and gardens you can visit, such as Casa de Pilatos, an Andalusian-style palace with a beautiful garden. There is also the Palacio de las Dueñas, which also features Moorish architecture and has a beautiful garden.
On a sunny day, there is one activity in Seville that is not to be missed, and that is a lovely walk through María Luisa Park. This is the green heart of the city and is full of beautiful ponds, fountains, and romantic paths. The park also has another major attraction, namely Plaza de España, which is located on the edge of the park. Plaza de España is one of the most impressive squares in Spain. Here, you can do various things, such as rent a boat on the canal or simply enjoy everything there is to see in the square.
On a sunny day, it is also wonderful to stroll through the streets of Triana. Triana is a neighborhood on the other side of the river. It is a lively and colorful neighborhood, and when the sun shines, the locals appear on the terraces. Be sure to take the time to walk around, stop at a terrace and enjoy a plate of patatas bravas and a tinto de verano while soaking up the relaxed atmosphere.
A rainy spring weekend
Rain is generally less common in Seville, but in recent years it has become more frequent. Don’t worry if it happens, Seville has plenty of indoor activities.
The first is Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Inside the cathedral, you will find enormous arch structures, art treasures and another eye-catcher, the tomb of Columbus. With an entrance ticket to the cathedral, you can also climb the Giralda tower, which offers a magnificent view of the city.
Seville also has many museums and cultural buildings where you can easily spend several hours of your day. Museums that are worth visiting include the Museo del Baile Flamenco and the Museo de Bellas Artes. You can also enjoy walking around the Casa de Pilatos or the Palacio de las Dueñas. In addition, there are several theatres that regularly organize cultural events, such as the Teatro Lope de Vega.
If it’s a rainy day, it’s the perfect opportunity to discover the culinary side of Seville. For example, visit Triana to eat at a tapas restaurant or visit the covered food market Mercado de Triana. The Santa Cruz district is also the perfect place to discover the culinary side of Seville, as it is full of delicious restaurants. There are also several patisseries where you can enjoy local pastries and a coffee. Even on a rainy day, life in Seville goes on as usual and there is still plenty to do in the city.
Seville is perfect in spring
Why is Seville perfect in spring? Seville combines sunny squares with terraces, a city in full bloom with beautiful colors everywhere and historic architecture. Even if the weather is not so good, the city is still full of charm to make it an unforgettable weekend.
