Here we are again with a new neigbourhood guide of Sevilla. This time around we’ll be exploring the somewhat posher area of the city, El Porvenir. A small neighbourhood next to the Maria Luisa Park and Plaza the España. The main reason why you’d want to visit this area is if you like Andalusian architecture and the typical houses. El Porvenir features some well-known as well as lesser known villas that are well worth gazing at.
One of the oldest buildings in the neighbourhood is the one on the boarder of El Porvenir, right across the park on Avendida de Borbolla, is El Cuartel de Ingenieros, or translated as the engineer’s headquarters. This building was built in 1901 in romantic and neoclassical style.
Another iconic building for the area is El Antigua Fábrica de ácido carbónico La Coromina, translated as the old factory of carbonic acid. This building is protected for its architecture and is now used as an administrative building of the University of Sevilla.
This little history lesson in architecture might have you hungry and we don’t blame you. Time to find a nice spot to sit down and eat some delicious tapas. Get those legs moving and bike over to Quorum Tapas for a modern take on seafood tapas.
We have a thing for ‘local’ spots and yet again, this is one of those. No touristy nonsense, good quality food and a restaurant filled up with the ‘real’ people of Sevilla! Don’t skip the tuna while you’re here because it will leave you wanting more.

Moving on, it’s time to go villa spotting. Some of the villa’s in the neighbourhood are built by Andalusian architectures that have quite some mention-worthy works under their name. For instance Villa Susana on Avenida de la Borbolla was built by Juan Talavera y Heredia, a famous architecture born in Sevilla.
For the real fans of these specific architects it might be worth doing your research before checking out the area, for others we just recommend to have a bike around and enjoy the views of the houses of the Sevillian upper class.
Some of these villas are event spaces for those interested in a real Andalusian marriage for example.
To finish off our little tour of El Porvenir, it’s time to go have a drink and a bite at La Escondida Pinchos & Copas, that’s skewers and drinks for those with limited knowledge of the language. We love the food here, but we might even be a bigger fan of the vibe and interior. Modern with a touch of industrial but at the same time doesn’t miss cosiness either.
Get yourself a gin tonic, or maybe even a Bloody Mary? Sit back, relax and enjoy the great atmosphere in this place! More info and opening hours on their facebook page.
TIP: sweet tooth? The desserts are great, forget about your diet and indulge in one!
