Feria de Abril

14 Abr 2023

Feria de Abril, this party is also known as one of Seville's most famous festivals. It is always 2 weeks after Semana Santa, Sunday 23 April until Saturday 29 April the weather is so far. A weeklong party with music, dance, food, drink and a carnival. This sounds like music to the ears!?

The origin of the Feria de Abril:

In 1847, the first version of Feria de Abril Sevilla was organized by two council members, José María Ybarra and Narciso Bonaplata. Initially it was created as a cattle market, but this soon turned into a festive activity, with commercial interests. Around 1920 the party reached its peak, so Feria de Abril Sevilla has now become the spectacle of today. It's seen as Seville's most exuberant party.

Course of Feria de Abril:

Since 1973, the Feria takes place at the "real de la feria". And is spread over an area of 450,000 m2. This area is then filled with 1000 stands, these are locally known under the name for the casetas. These are decorated tents of local families, groups of friends, companies, clubs or political parties. But beware! You can only enter if you are invited or on the guest list. But not grieved all over the square are a number of public-sector casetas for which have been established. There is even one for international tourism.

The carnival is filled with hundreds of coaches, where you can take a ride (for a fee). And every afternoon, there's a bullfight.

The traditions of the Feria de Abril:

Prior to Saturday evening, also called the evening of the fish "N]oche del pescaito", it is a tradition to eat fried fish, pescaíto frito during dinner. The Feria de Abril then traditionally starts at the stroke of 12 midnight, when the thousands of lights from the gate and on the terrain start to light. The lights remain on for seven days and go out at midnight on Saturday with a subsequent large firework along the Guadalquivir River.

The ladies look at their most beautiful and wear the most diverse, colorful and striking flamenco dresses; green with dots, fringes, purple and all equally beautiful. The flamenco dress is extremely caring in combination with the flower in the hair, the jewelry that is worn and the manila scarf (a large scarf with fringes that is used as a transhipment cloth). The men wear a so-called traditional short suit. The sombrero is also part of this, of course. The suit consists of a vest, gilet, blouse with folds or fringes and braces. The pants are a long pantalon under which boots with socks are worn. The COLOuRS of the suit consist mainly of dark tones due to the stifling fabric of the streets.

In short, the Feria de Abril is a party that you certainly cannot miss when you are in Seville. There is also a vlog over the Feria de Abril.
