Seville is best known for its iconic landmarks, such as one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world, the Seville Cathedral, and the iconic Plaza de España. But if you want to experience the real Seville, you need to leave the crowds behind and really explore the narrow streets and hidden squares that most tourists miss. In this blog, I’ll take you on a tour of some of the city’s hidden gems, and I’m sure that afterwards you’ll feel you’ve truly experienced Seville.
Hidden, peaceful and green spots
The Real Alcázar is a very famous palace in Seville and a place that attracts many tourists. But even within the gardens of the Real Alcázar, there are more secluded corners where it can be surprisingly quiet. These are spots that require you to walk a little further than most people do.
As well as the Real Alcázar, there is another hidden palace: the Palacio de las Dueñas. This palace is far less well-known than the Real Alcázar, and here you’ll find peaceful courtyards, beautiful gardens, and colorful architecture. The Palacio de las Dueñas is truly a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while, and it’s just as atmospheric.
The authentic district Triana
If you stand by the river, you can see the Triana district on the opposite bank; Triana is a district that is often overlooked by tourists. However, Triana is one of the most authentic neighborhoods in Seville. Here you can find various local tapas bars, as well as a covered market called the Mercado de Triana. Furthermore, Triana is the only place where ceramics are still made by hand, and there is also a ceramics museum. Triana has a wonderfully relaxed and lively atmosphere.
It’s a lovely neighborhood for strolling through the narrow streets, discovering new little squares, and on Calle Betis you can enjoy a stunning view of the Guadalquivir River. In the evening, Triana really comes to life.
Architecture and history
Seville is brimming with remarkable architecture and boasts a rich history, yet it is full of hidden details that are easy to miss. Places you might easily overlook include old patios behind closed doors or courtyards with a historical background.
The Hospital de los Venerables is a fine example of this; it is a historic building featuring a beautiful Baroque church and a peaceful courtyard. There are also lesser-known streets in and around the city center that still bear traces of Roman and Moorish influences; one such example is the Macarena district, where you can still see the ancient city walls dating back to Roman times.
Stunning viewpoints
When it comes to a beautiful view of the city center or a sunset, most people immediately think of the Metropool Parasol. But there are also far quieter spots where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city or a sunset.
A quieter spot to enjoy the sunset is along the Guadalquivir River. Here you can enjoy a beautiful sunset without the crowds. If you’re looking for a great view of the city center, Seville has plenty of rooftop bars; two examples are Abba The Roof and Pura Vida Terraza. At both rooftop bars, you can enjoy a stunning view of the city center and a sunset whilst sipping a drink.
Eat where the locals eat
One of the best ways to discover hidden gems is through food. Avoiding touristy restaurants will lead you to real gems where you can eat, so opt for smaller, more traditional tapas bars tucked away in the side streets of the city center. That’s when you’ll truly taste the flavors of typical Sevillian dishes and really soak up the local atmosphere.
The real gems are often places tucked away in side streets with no big sign out front. How do you find such gems? Ask the locals where they eat or take a stroll and let yourself be surprised by what you come across in the city. Some hidden gems include Catalina, El Pasaje, El Rinconillo and La Brunilda.

To discover the true charm of Seville, you shouldn’t stick to the main attractions but seek out the hidden gems you come across along the way. Let yourself be surprised; just pop into somewhere. Whether it’s a palace courtyard, a cozy local tapas restaurant, or a rooftop bar, all these spots will make your visit to Seville extra special.
