The Month That Turns the City Upside Down

At the end of September, during the weekend of the 26th, 27th, and 28th, the Fiesta de San Miguel will once again take place in Seville. It celebrates San Miguel as the patron saint of the city. This colorful festival marks the end of summer each year. While it is mainly celebrated by locals, tourists are more than welcome to join in the fun!

You can try lots of delicious food and enjoy refreshing drinks. Music fills the streets, people gather together, and various stalls with attractions are set up.

In addition, bullfights also take place, marking the closing of the bullfighting season. As in previous years, there will be a series of three corridas (bullfights), all held at the Real Maestranza.

Who Will Enter the Real Maestranza This September?

As mentioned before, there will be three corridas this year. The fights will be held on September 26, 27, and 28, starting at 6:30 PM. Each day features three different bullfighters, each facing two bulls. The bulls also come from different breeding farms every day.

Friday, September 26:

  • José María Manzanares
  • Juan Ortega
  • Pablo Aguado

Saturday, September 27:

  • Alejandro Talavante
  • Daniel Luque
  • Borja Jiménez

Sunday, September 28:

  • Morante de la Puebla
  • Andrés Roca Rey
  • Javier Zulueta

It is still uncertain whether Morante de la Puebla will actually appear in the arena, as he is still recovering. Should he be unable to perform, a replacement will be arranged.

Prices, Times and More

The bullfights begin each day at 6:30 PM and last about 2.5 hours. Tickets for the fights on September 26, 27, and 28 can be purchased via this link: https://ticketstoros.com/es/plaza-de-toros-de-sevilla/. Prices vary depending on the seating area. The cheapest tickets are those in the sun, but keep in mind you’ll be sitting in the bright, hot sun for 2.5 hours. There is also an additional €12 service fee per ticket.

More Spectacles in the Arena

The weekend before the Fiesta de San Miguel, there will be a novillada. Officially, this event is not part of the Fiesta. A novillada is a different type of bullfight where young bulls are used instead of fully grown ones. The fighters are also young trainees who are not yet recognized as full matadors.

Finally, there is also the Día de la Hispanidad, an official Spanish holiday. This day commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America in 1492. Religious ceremonies are held, and Columbus is honored at his tomb inside the cathedral.
