Things to do in Sevilla with kids

22 May 2016

Traveling with kids is always a little different. It forces you to put aside those serious museums and look for fun and interactive ways to fill in your itinerary. However it doesn’t mean you can’t go sightseeing. Sevilla is the perfect city to discover with kids because of its colourful and lively character. We made a selection of things to see and do in Sevilla that won’t leave the kids disappointed.

Go visit the Real Alcazar de Sevilla

Walking around the Alcazar will never have the kids thinking they are doing boring sightseeing. The combination of the wealthy decorated palaces and the beautiful gardens will leave young and old in awe. The kids will also definitely love the peacock showing off its beautiful feathers and the other animals like ducks and the many koi fish. A trip into the history of the Moorish emperors and the Catholic kings that followed can’t get more beautiful than this.

Barrio Santa Cruz

From the exit of the alcazar, you can immediately enter the Jewish quarter on your right-hand side. It’s one of the most beautiful quarters of Sevilla because of its narrow streets and its typical examples of the Mudejar style of architecture. Moreover, you can often take a glimpse into the patios of the inhabitants filled with colourful flowers an many plants. Because let’s be honest, aren’t we all a little curious to see how the locals live?

Plaza de España and Maria Luisa Park

Let’s continue at the most beautiful part of Sevilla. The centrepiece of the expo of 1929, the Plaza de España! Go take a look at all the benches that represent the provinces of Spain with a ceramic piece of art portraying something typical. The kids might even know some of them! But there’s more… There’s a little canal incorporated in the square and you can rent boats to row under the beautiful bridges of the square. If anything, the kids will love this!

Also the park is definitely worth a little stroll. Take the little sand paths instead of the big roads and discover all the beautiful fountains, ceramic animals and little chapels that are part of the park.

Are you already excited to go visit these places, but would you love someone to tell you more about it? We visit these and many other monuments in Sevilla on our Daily Bike Tour!
Do you love discovering a city by bike, but are you more eager to go out and explore it on your own? Bike rental is also one of the possibilities!

Las setas

Last on our list to see with the kids is Las Setas, or better known as the Metropol Parasol. This construction that was built for the world-expo of ’92 is the perfect place to watch the sunset. On top of it you get the most amazing view of the city and it’s in open air, so no need for the kids to be quiet!

Hungry yet?

All this sightseeing of course causes for hungry tummies. To cool down there’s always an ice cream from Frescura in Alameda (Italian icecream, score!) or Heladeria Rayas, different locations can be found throughout the city centre.

Looking for more than a sweet treat? Puerta Delicias has animation for the kids on the weekends, but of course there’s many more restaurants to discover, our other recommendations are Sala Cachorro in Triana or the terrace of Torre de los perdigones.

Time for something extra: Isla Magica!

If you are spending more time in Sevilla than just a couple of days for a city trip, the ultimate thing to please the kids is to free a day for some fun in our own theme- and/or water park: Isla Magica! If you do decide to do museums and a lot of sightseeing with the kids, this might be the perfect compromise to have a little time for you and some fun time for them as well!

And of course… nothing wrong with letting out your inner child once in a while as well right?!
