In summer, temperatures in Seville can rise to over 40 degrees. That’s why both locals and tourists seek out cool spots as much as possible, both indoors and outdoors. Fortunately, there are several lovely places in the city where you can cool off

Maria Luisa Park

Maria Luisa Park is one of the best places to cool off in Seville. The park covers around 34 hectares and offers shade in several spots thanks to its many trees and beautiful gardens. There are benches scattered throughout the park where you can rest, as well as various kiosks and cafés where you can enjoy a bite to eat or a drink. There are also several fountains and ponds that create a pleasant and refreshing atmosphere.

Santa Cruz

The old Jewish quarter of Santa Cruz is known for its narrow, winding streets and charming squares. Because the streets are narrow and the tall buildings provide plenty of shade, it often feels a lot cooler in this neighbourhood than in the rest of the city. You’ll also find plenty of cosy bars, cafés and restaurants in the neighbourhood where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a tasty meal.

Museums and monuments

During the hottest hours of the day, a visit to a museum is an excellent way to cool down. Many museums have air conditioning or pleasantly cool courtyards. Some museums we recommend visiting are the Museum of Fine Arts, Casa de Pilatos, the Palace of Las Dueñas and the Museum of Folk Art and Traditions.

Some museums in the city offer free entry to EU citizens on certain days or at specific times. It is advisable to check the current opening hours and entry requirements in advance, as these may vary from museum to museum.

We also recommend visiting other monuments in the city, such as Seville Cathedral. It is pleasantly cool inside, allowing you to escape the heat. At the same time, you can admire the impressive history and architecture of one of Seville’s most famous landmarks.

Along the River Guadalquivir

It’s also lovely to cool off along the River Guadalquivir. Especially in the early morning or late afternoon, it’s much more pleasant here than in the hot city centre. Along the river, you can enjoy a leisurely walk or cycle or simply rest on a bench whilst a refreshing breeze blows.

Fancy a drink whilst you’re out and about? Then we recommend the cosy terraces on Calle Betis. From here, you’ll have a stunning view of Seville’s historic centre, with the famous Giralda tower on the other side of the river. Especially at sunset, this is one of the most beautiful spots in the city to relax for a while.

Covered markets and shopping centres

When temperatures rise, the covered markets and shopping centres are a lovely place to cool off. We highly recommend the Mercado de Triana, where you can sample fresh produce, tapas and local specialities. You can also catch a small-scale flamenco show in the market, which makes for a unique cultural experience.

There are also several shopping centres in Seville where you can shop, have a bite to eat or a drink, and enjoy the cool air-conditioning indoors.

Guadalpark

If you’re really looking to cool off, visit Guadalpark, Seville’s water park. Here you can enjoy various swimming pools, spectacular slides and other attractions for young and old alike. The park also has a range of food and drink outlets where you can buy food and drinks.
