When temperatures in Seville regularly exceed 35 degrees in summer, the city seems to slow down a little during the day. Yet this by no means implies that life comes to a standstill. On the contrary, it is precisely during the summer months that centuries-old traditions come to life and Seville adapts its rhythm to the heat. Anyone visiting the city in July or August will discover a unique way of life centred on culture, socialising and conviviality.

One of the most striking customs is the shift of daily life to the cooler evening hours. During the day, locals seek refuge from the heat indoors, and many still stick to the traditional siesta. As soon as the sun begins to set, the squares, terraces and charming little streets fill with life once more. Families go for the ‘paseo’ together – the typical evening stroll where the focus is not on the destination, but on being together.

Summer in Seville is also all about open-air culture. Every year, the ‘Noches en los Jardines del Alcázar’ concert series takes place in the gardens of the magnificent Real Alcázar of Seville. Under the starry sky, visitors enjoy flamenco, classical music and jazz. These concerts have become a much-loved tradition for both locals and visitors alike.

The Triana neighbourhood also plays an important role during the summer. Every July, the Velá de Santa Ana is celebrated here – one of the city’s oldest folk festivals. The streets are decorated with fairy lights, there are performances, local market stalls and, of course, plenty of music and dancing. The festival demonstrates just how strongly the people of Seville are connected to their traditions and their neighbourhood.

The cuisine also adapts to the warm temperatures. Refreshing dishes such as gazpacho and salmorejo are a must on the table. Evening meals often don’t start until after ten o’clock and are enjoyed at length with family and friends on atmospheric terraces. In Seville, eating isn’t just about flavour, but above all about enjoying each other’s company.

Meanwhile, flamenco remains the beating heart of Sevillian culture. Throughout the summer, spontaneous performances and shows take place all over the city. The passion, emotion and energy of this art form are expressed with intensity during long, warm summer evenings.

On our cycle tours, we take visitors to the places where these traditions are still alive and well every day. We cycle through charming neighbourhoods such as Triana, share stories about local customs and introduce you to the city’s authentic rhythm. This way, you not only see the highlights of Seville, but also experience the culture just as the locals do.
