Films and series in Sevilla

27 Sep 2022

The city of Seville makes you feel like you’re walking through an open-air museum. The interesting buildings, beautiful nature and charm also make the city an interesting place for filmmakers. If you are a big movie lover or want to feel like you are in a movie, I have interesting information for you about which films were recorded in Seville.

The Dictator (2012) Plaza de España

The comedy the dictator is about the fictional East-African dictator Alaede. He is taken hostage and replaced by a goatherder, who looks like two drops of water like him. During his escape, he will learn to know Zoey, a beautiful generous owner of a Zen Shop. Together they try to get Aladeen's power back.
In 2012, Plaza de España in Seville was transformed into an evil palace of the dictator Alaede, allowing you to see the building in several scenes of the film. During the three days of filming, the Plaza was closed to visitors. On Monday morning they took aerial photographs of the Plaza, while that evening hundreds of figurines were spinning around and performing dances for their worshiped leader. The Plaza España is a beautiful large building that radiates a lot of splendor. That is why it was the perfect choice to turn this square into the palace of the powerful dictator Alaede.

Star Wars: Episode II The Attack of the Clones (2002) Plaza España

The Plaza de España is a favorite place for several films to use as a film location, so it was also used for the movie Star Wars: Episode II the Attack of the Clones. The location was chosen to mimic the palace of Naboo in the city of Theed. Anakin Skywalker and Padme can be seen, walking around the beautiful building that was built for the 1929 World Exhibition. The film won over 600 million, bringing it into the twenty most profitable films of the year 2000. As a Star Wars fan, there is no nicer place to go than the Plaza de España. You can follow in the footsteps of the world's famous actors, and since there has not been much digital manipulation, you can take exactly the same pictures that George Lucas has taken.

Game of Thrones (season 5) Real Alcazar

HBO brought a great deal of enthusiasm among Spanish fans when she announced that part of the fifth season of the popular series would be recorded in the capital of Andalusia. The fairytale Real Alcázar Palace was used as a film venue for Dorne's water gardens. The azulejos, the fountains, the gardens filled with roses, and the orange trees fit perfectly into the décor that the filmmakers were looking for. Four parts of the Alcázar were filmed: The Salon de Embajadores, the Estanque de Mercurio, the Baños de Maria de Padilla, and the gardens. In my opinion, the exceptionally beautiful castle is an excellent place to make this supernatural series seem as real as possible.

The Kingdom of Heaven (2005) Alcázar

The film the Kingdom of Heaven, including Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, and Jeremy Irons, has also been inspired by the beautiful city of Seville. Here the Real Alcázar was used as the palace of Baldwin IV in Jerusalem. The shots lasted ten days, according to director Ridley Scott they were very lucky with the weather because the weather forecasts were bad.

In short, the old charming cinematic city of Seville, with its beautiful gardens and palaces, stimulates the creativity of filmmakers and is therefore even more attractive for visitors who have admired these films and want to see the places from the film. This way you can walk through the movies as it were.
