Seville is anything but boring in Spring because of the two festivities, Semana Santa and Feria de Abril, also known as The Seville Fair.
For the fair, which will make its official start on the 21st of April, there will be a large amount of ground reserved for all the activities and casetas. The casetas can be seen as some kind of stands. Most casetas are for families, businesses or groups of friends. Every year there is a big waiting list for new people that would like to own a stand. It takes a lot of patience and money to have your own.
But don’t worry, there are also public casetas where you can go to!
During the Feria you’ll see many people dancing, drinking, eating and socialising. The drinking, eating and socialising isn’t the hard part as that can be done by almost everyone, though the dancing is really something else! The people of Seville have their own dance on their folk music called the Sevillana, and it may look a bit like Flamenco. If you like to dance, it’s worth taking a few lessons before going to the fair, otherwise it may be smarter to leave it to just drinking. At the end of this article you can find a video of the Sevillana dance.
Together with the Feria, another tradition of Spain will be honoured. During the Feria there will be daily bullfights, and these are also considered the best of the year. If you prefer not to watch a bullfight, then it’s still great to visit the museum in at the bullfighters arena.
To help you prepare for the Seville Fair, we offer you the chance to take a Sevillana dance course. By clicking on the name, you'll find yourself at the page of a Flamenco dance course, but during this time there is also the possibility to dress up and learn the moves of the Sevillana from an insider!
