“Perdon, do you speak English?”

02 Oct 2017

"Do you speak English?" This is the first thing you ask when you here in Seville. At least it was the first thing I asked a lot of people here in Seville because my Spanish was not very good yet. Unfortunately a very very few people did speak English. This is actually very weird for me as a North-European. Because I am used to everybody around me speaking English. But still, for Spain as an European country and for Seville as the city of the world, people should be speaking English here. However, the problem is that earlier, people did not get English education on school. This caused them to never learn the language actually. Nowadays English is a one of the key modules on schools here in Seville. As I noticed, do younger people, actually a lot of kids speak English. For example, my landlord, she speaks English very little, but her daughter, which is seven years, translated for her mom our dialog. Actually very nice to see that the new generation is more and well educated. This is also a lot easier for tourists and student here.

But how does it feel to be a student in Seville? First of all, it is wonderful here. The city, the monuments and the history of this city is amazing. The people here are very kind and always in for a talk. They love to talk here in Seville. Further, the food is delicious. They have very good tapas here and you can eat whatever you want in this city. From McDonalds, to traditional tapas and famous Spanish dishes. So food for everybody.

Furthermore you can swim, sport, go to the parks, or just walk through this city. Swimming is possible in one of our many swimming pools, however, these are wellness clubs, so not just a open pool for everybody. But you can buy a day ticket and enjoy the pool to cool off a bit. Additionally you can sport a lot here in Seville. I love to workout a lot in the gym, so I got a membership at Cuesta Sport Seville. This gym offers you an Erasmus membership for students. So if you love to workout in the gym, I definitely recommend you to go to this gym! Even more, they have a beautiful roof top terrace to relax after a good workout. Aren’t you that kind of person to work out a lot, and just want to relax and enjoy the weather here? Go to the Maria Luisa Park. Located in the city, in front of the Plaza de Espana. A big park that stretches 40 hectares. In this park you find the beautiful nature. A lot of places to sit, fountains, beautiful flowers and of course walking paths. This one is definitely worth it!

But wait before I end this blog, I almost forget to tell you about the nice clubs Seville offers. Because for sure you want to go out, have a few drinks and enjoy the evening right? These are the best Erasmus clubs in the city and in these you will definitely enjoy the evening. First we have Uthopia, the most famous Erasmus club in Seville, you will party hardy in this one and watch out for the hangover the day after, because the drinks are very good there! We also have Bilindo and Libano, those are good outdoor clubs, since the weather is always fine in Seville, you will enjoy those also. The last one is Hoyo19, this is also an Erasmus club where you will find a lot of students partying. So I think I helped you a lot didn’t I?
