29 May 2017

Beautiful, historical buildings, mixed with gardens and parks that look like they are straight out of a fairy-tale? It’s sounds almost too good to be true… but behold! Seville is the place you want to go if you are interested in this beautiful mix! Here is the top five of the most beautiful parks and gardens you will find in Seville.

1. Real Alcázar de Sevilla

Now, we have arrived at number one! After you have visited the palace itself, it’s time to walk across the beautiful gardens, attached to the palace. Here you can a wide variety of fruit trees and fragrant flowers. The gardens not only supplied food for the palace residents, but had the function of bringing pleasure. You can experience that for yourself when you visit these magical gardens!

You can also do a special night tour! It’s a different way to explore the beautiful gardens of Real Alcázar.

2. Parque de María Luisa

This beautiful garden – yes, garden! – used to be attached to the San Telmo Palace. They were donated to the city of Seville in the end of the 19th century, by Maria Luisa, who used to be the Duchess of Montpensier and lived in the San Telmo Palace. It used to be the size of 120 (!) soccer fields, but nowadays it’s a bit smaller.

It’s the perfect spot to relax, get a tan, do yoga and take photos of all the beautiful plants, flowers and trees. It’s also a perfect place to cycle! With the daily bike tour, you can see parts of this magical park.

Also, it tends to get very hot here in the summertime, but when you walk through the beautiful park it feels a lot cooler due to the trees which provide shadow.

3. Jardines De Las Delicias

This park is close to the Parque de María Luisa, on the other side of the road. In this park you will, of course, find a lot of different plants and trees, but you will also find a lot of statues. The statues are made in honour of different gods and goddesses, for example Venus and Urania.

4. Jardines de Murillo

Next to the huge walls of the royal palace of Seville, you will find the old vegetable garden of the royal palace. It was turned into a park when the Ibero-American exposition was held in Seville.

Nowadays, it’s free to visit and when you walk through the park you can see huge fig plants. In this park you can also find a statue, made in honour of Christopher Columbus.

5. Jardines de Cristina

In the city centre of Seville, you will find the Christina Garden. It used to be a part of the San Telmo Palace, and it was named after María Cristina de Orleans, the daughter of Maria Luisa who used to live in the San Telmo Palace.

In this park alone, you can find more than 50 different plants, trees and flowers!

The María Luisa Park, a beautiful and huge park, which we will be getting further into later, was also part of the San Telmo Palace.
